  C'mon, you know I just added the Rodman picture for the hell of it.

  It's funny that we even use the words masculine and feminine to describe the traits we are talking about. But what are we going to do, our whole society is conditioned to think of very polar stereotypes for men and women.

  I think for a man to think completely starts with simple awareness. Try and think of how other people feel in whatever situation they are in. Of course, we cannot possibly know every factor affecting how they feel, but the effort is what counts, and with time we hone our skills. Another big thing is listening to people in complete fairness and open-mindedness, without considering gender at all.

  If a person is truly aware the preconceptions just melt away and experience leads to thinking as a human being and not a man/woman.

  i found this article in the phoenix new times apparently addressed to the director of "sideways".

  to those who haven't seen this amazing film i would recommend it.

  Sideways was a breath of fresh air in Hollywood's atmosphere of special effects, top 40 soundtracks, and popularity-based casting. Believable, subtle characters played impeccably by actors chosen by effectiveness makes for an actually moving experience. And yes, I just criticized Hollywood to make my point.

  Reinstatement procedure

  does anyone out there know the procedure to being reinstated?

  i have been df'd for almost 5 years now and i'm considering... possibly getting reinstated.

  however, i have been to a few meetings in the last few weeks and i am constantly ignored (i thought the elders were allowed to talk to me... there are at least 10 elders) also, i enquired about getting a bible study and was told that i could not have a bible study because df'd people do not get studied with.

  Sorry you're having a tough time. Perhaps this could be a warning sign to you that the JWs are not the religion you want to be mixed up in. I had the same problem. I was DFed for 9 years and tried to begin the reinstatement procedure in a cong where no one knew me. The elders actually had a look of disgust on their faces when I said I wanted to be reinstated. All this after humbly walking four miles to get to the meeting. I had to find out about the letter writing on my own, then I give it to them and nothing. I think they just threw it away because a month went by with no response. I then move into my parents' cong and the elders there ask the elders whom I wrote the letter about me to see if I had been going to meetings (I had for a month) and to get the letter forwarded to the new cong. They actually said they have no idea who I am and that they never received any letter. Can you believe it? They actually lied and denied every effort I had made for the past month! I should have run for the hills at this point, but I was also in it to get my family back, so I stuck it out. Be warned: Being an elder has nothing to do with being a good person.

  Would Jesus shun anyone?

  i can't imagine jesus shunning anyone.

  on the contrary, he went towards those who needed help the most.

  if the jw's followed jesus footsteps, they wouldn't shun.

  I was just picturing this scene. I know it's petty and grudgeful, but imagine everyone dies and goes to heaven and the JWs get treated the same way they treated everyone on earth. "Oh, Timmy, you can't play with that boy, he's a JW" Or everyone goes out preaching (bear with me) on Saturday morning except the JWs, so they can be woken up on a 5 degree morning by a 2nd-grader holding cheesy depressing magazines.

  You know your religion is a house of cards when shunning is the official way to deal with sinners and dissenters, in spite the loving example set by your claimed King. I mean, if they had the truth, their beliefs would stand up to any question asked by a former member. If Jesus came to judge the human race, the G.B., the Writing Committee, anyone who knowingly distorted and covered up Jesus' message would be on the top of the "People to Kill" list.

  Do belief and logic have to be enemies?

  after much, much soul searching this past weekend i was once again confronted with the possibility of what can be called the divine.

  it was not exactly a pleasant experience, as i have been denying, even ridiculing the idea of god basically since exiting the jws (guess i was more traumatized than i thought).

  during this last year i have been convinced that i must have been crazy for believing in god.

  Zen Nudist: What you said is true. What if the ideal is a frame of mind I personally experienced in the past, when I was truly in love with everything and felt that anything was possible, and I believe this was only possible through complete sobriety and temperance in all things, part of what I would call the "holy path"? This was by far the happiest time of my life, with the exception of having no one to share it with. The "holy path" would almost certainly alienate those I love, so I hesitate to jump back on. It would be nice to have the best of both worlds.

  JamesThomas: I realize now that "belief" is not the most accurate term for what I mean. I am really referring to the "Other", that non-describable consciousness that some refer to as God. I hadn't communed with this side of things for quite some time, being sick of it all due to the JW thing. When confronted with it this last weekend, my first reaction was fear (by the way I loved the thread Little Toe started). When I followed it in the past, it led to fasting, celibacy, in general a preoccupation with the other side, and I fear the same thing will happen again. Ultimately, I would like to have that deep sense of awe while retaining the creature comforts of a sense of humor and the love of a good woman.
